A Derived Role (or Child Role) is a type of role maintained within SAP ECC and R/3 environments. They inherit the menu structure and transactions from another role called a Master Role -- also known as a Parent Role.
Changes related to menu structures and transactions automatically cascade from the Master Role to the Derived role. This helps to lower the burden of managing roles common across the enterprise and increases the level of role standardization. Higher standardization makes the management of roles less complex.
